Firearm sales in Colorado..?

Question:

Is it legal for two Colorado residents to do a private party sale of a firearm? Say, for example, a Norinco SKS - could two CO residents simply meet in a parking lot and exchange driver's license info and cash for the firearm?

I thought that CO made that illegal some years ago but was told that I'm mistaken. Anyone know?

Thanks for any help...

I live in CO and to my knowledge, private party sales are still legal.

But why even exchange DL info? If you're the seller, just ask for $20 bills, I'd say the odds of your counterparty's DL being bogus are higher than the odds of $20 FRNs being bogus.

It doesn't hurt doing at least a minimal amount of due diligence to protect yourself. At least ask the other person if there is any reason that he can not legally own a gun. And verify he is a state resident (has a driver's license.)

If you are selling, you may want to get a signed proof of exchange. Just in case your gun turns up at a crime scene somewhere.

IANAL - this is just my gut feelings on this.

I have always requested a buyers name and address just in case somebody official comes around asking questions.

At least if one of my former weapons shows up at a crime scene I can say this is who I sold it to.

most my firearms came from FTF sales

never once would I ask to see any ID if selling or would I show ID if buying

not against the law in my state none of my fu**ing business who is buying or selling as long as I believe that the person can own a firearm legal.

if the person can't legally own a firearm you think they are giving you the real info.

but if that makes you feel warm and fuzzy to hold a piece of paper that you don't know if it is legit then go ahead.
